Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of COVID-19 test kits Rapid introduction of LDS(low dead-space) syringes
The biggest achievements of K-Quarantine for overcoming COVID-19 and returning to normal include the emergency use authorization (EUA) of COVID-19 test kits conducted in collaboration with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and the rapid introduction of LDS syringes to increase the efficiency of vaccination carried out with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Public Procurement Service last year. These two best practices are meaningful in that proactive administration was carried out through cooperation between different ministries. Furthermore, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety won the Prime Minister's Commendation for two years in a row in the Proactive Administration Best Practice Contest through these practices.
Last year, the emergency use authorization (EUA) of COVID-19 test kits was selected as one of the 10 best practices in proactive administration as the case was assessed as contributing to emergency quarantine against COVID-19 by allowing the country to secure large scale testing capabilities through rapid authorization support so that various test kits can be used according to the quarantine situation. It not only received global acknowledgment for the quality of test kits through proactive technical support to enhance the quality of COVID-19 test kits but also expanded Korea’s export of In Vitro Diagnostics. Looking at the overall performance of the In Vitro Diagnostics including COVID-19 test kits, the 2020 output increased by 553%, and export by 623%, year on year.
ㅇKey steps of the rapid introduction of LDS syringes are as follows: - (""LDS syringe"", until the last drop) Administered expensive or insufficiently manufactured treatment to as many people as possible. - (""LDS syringe"", effects similar to increasing vaccine production by 20%) Increased the number of vaccinated persons per one vial - (Urgent need of LDS syringe) The amount of COVID-19 vaccine available in the early stage was vastly insufficient in the US, as of Dec. 2020 - (Miracle of Christmas Eve... for all those who have devoted themselves...) Supported the preparation for rapid certification of LDS syringes, domestic certification completed on June 1st, 2021, and global certification on Feb. 17th, 2021
